Abstract

It is essential to understand the definition of the orbital pathology with generation of quantitative data in both congenital & traumatic deformities. But it is difficult to understand anatomical relationships of orbits to adjacent anatomy with previous conventional X-ray & computerized tomogram.
Recent developments in computer technology have integrated radiology, computer aided design(CAD) & plastic reconstructive surgery.
In order to apply computer graphics to an orbit surgery we practiced phantom study (egg & dry skull) & clinical study (normal adult orbit volumes) as a pilot study Results were as following;
1) In egg phantom study
Optimal window widty/level for egg volume measurements is 1000/450
2) In dry skull phantom study
OPtimal slice thickness for orbital volume is 3mm
3) (1) Mean of normal adult male orbital volume :20.7cc
(2) Mean of normal adult female orbital volume : 18.1cc
(3) upper limit of normal difference between right & left orbital volume is 7.2%
